Who is the real king of African sprinting between Ferdinand Omanyala and Letsil Tebogo?

World 100m silver medallist Letsile Tebogo clapped back at Ferdinand Omanyala’s sentiments of believing he is the king of African sprinting.

Before Tebogo’s clapback, Omanyala had been in an interview with Track and Field network and he seemingly claimed that he was the king of African sprinting due to his accolades achieved so far.

Omanyala is regarded as Africa’s fastest man, thanks to his African record-time that he set during the 2021 Kip Keino Classic. Omanyala clocked an astonishing 9.77 to break Akani Simbine’s record and has since been identified as Africa’s fastest man.

The 28-year-old is also the African champion, a title he claimed after his 100m victory at the 2022 African Senior Athletics Championships.

“Is Letsile Tebogo the king of African sprinting?” the interviewer asked Omanyala who in turn replied with a question.

“Who is the African champion? Who has the African record? I hope that answers your questions,” the Commonwealth Games champion replied. The interviewer replied to both questions with an agreement to Omanyala’s questions.

Meanwhile, Tebogo has also made great milestones in the 100m and 200m, where he became the first African to win a medal in the 100m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Botswanan wunderkind also bagged a bronze medal in the 200m at the global stage and is also a double World Under-20 champion.

During his interview with Track and Field Network, Tebogo had no comment concerning the same and explained that everything would reveal itself as time goes by.

“I do not have anything to say. Everything will reveal itself as time goes on. To me, it does not make sense if you are the African champion, but where it mattered the most, he could not step in,” he said.
