The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist was not disappointed with his performance, noting that, being his first competition of the season, he did not know how he would perform.

Julius Yego was elated to have cleared a season best, assuring his fans that everything is okay and that he is healthy and ready for the long season.

Julius Yego now goes back to the drawing board to address what might have gone wrong ahead of the National Police Service Championships.

“First competition is very unpredictable since it’s all about dusting off, getting off the rust, and it was today. 78.52m as best season is a bonus, first competition of the year and almost 4 months since last competition,” Julius Yego shared in a post on his Facebook page.

“Healthy and physically very okay this year, and yawning for the next competition back home at NPs champs. Might not be what I expected, but am very happy with the day’s outcome. Can’t wait for the next competition.”

Julius Yego is still going strong after years of representing Kenya on the global stage, and his hope this season will be to make it to the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The Kenyan finished fifth at last year’s Paris Olympic Games, clearing 87.72m, an enough morale booster to keep going and eye more milestones in 2025.
