Letsile Tebogo has put his rivals on notice after victory in the Doha Diamond League.

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo has maintained that his victory in the Diamond League meeting on May 16 was a warning to his rivals.

The sprint sensation from Botswana was in his element, claiming victory in the men's 200m with a time of 20.10 seconds, after controlling the race from the gun to the tape.

Tebogo, who in 2022 became the youngest African 200m champion in the history of the competition, added that the win was a statement that he means business this season.

"I'm happy to start the 200m season strong..and I want to end the season on a high note. I have to send a few messages to the people out there that I'm somewhere there in the mix. They shouldn't be comfortable when I'm around," he said on Diamond League YouTube channel.

"I know my instincts. Not everybody else has that power to see, that power to finish. I have to finish what I started and if I can't finish who can finish for me? he posed.

"Next year the meet record will definitely fall. If they send me an invitation then I'll be glad to be here."

At the same time, Tebogo, who has held the world under-20 record in the 100m since April 2022, gave a hint at his preferred Diamond League races this season.

"London and Monaco," Tebogo reiterated when asked about his choice. "Those are the two diamond leagues that I always look forward to running and give the people a great show."

Tebogo slowed down towards the end of the race but insisted that the intention was to enjoy the moment.

"It was all about enjoying the race and that's why I came here. I told my coach that now this is our first race and I have to enjoy..once the season takes shape I won't enjoy. I wanted to enjoy and I  will see how I do about the other ones."

Tebogo became the first winner of the newly inaugurated Jesse Owens Rising Star Award  at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, September 2024.
