Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has broken her silence on what cost her victory at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha on Friday night.

Competing in her first Diamond League race since 2022, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was confident about dropping a bombshell, but things did not go as planned, forcing her to miss a place on the podium.

The three-time Olympic champion revealed that she has not competed consistently in the past few years due to injuries, something that forced her to take caution as she competed against a strong group of women in Doha.

She revealed that the main goal going into the race was to finish healthy, and that is what matters the most at the moment.

“Well, to go back and look. It’s been a while since I competed consistently, so I’m glad that I have finished healthy, which is good,” Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said.

“I thank God for that. I’m just looking forward to going back and building and coming back for the next one.”

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce added that she has sweet memories of competing in Doha, since it was when she won her first 100m title after giving birth to her son, Zyon, in 2017.

Fraser-Pryce took some time off and returned to competition in 2019, where she made history by becoming the first mother to do so in 24 years.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce revealed that her return is memorable, and has been treated with so much honour, something she will forever keep in her heart.

Speaking about her form at the moment, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce noted that she does not want to jinx anything and would rather maintain silence and keep doing the work.

“Honestly, Doha is a great place to be. In 2019, I won my world championship here. I’ve come back here for a lot of different Diamond Leagues,” Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said.

“It has been fantastic, and the atmosphere has been electric. The reception has been wonderful, and I’m excited to have been able to come back here again.

“That’s not for me to say right now, the season is long, and we just have to continue putting in the work and just hope for the best.”

Following her fourth-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce now goes back to the drawing board to address her shortcomings ahead of her next competition.
