Nzoia Sugar FC remain hopeful of avoiding relegation with new signings and a strategic focus.

Nzoia Sugar FC caretaker coach Biko Otere remains optimistic about his team's chances of evading relegation, despite a recent 2-0 loss to Kenya Police FC.

This defeat has not dampened the spirit of Otere, who firmly believes that the struggle to remain in the league is very much in their own control.

Nzoia, along with several others, is mired in a fight against relegation, a situation that has become increasingly tense as the season progresses.

"The league is a marathon, not a sprint, and we have more than 15 matches to come. We have registered new players, and starting next week, you will see all our new signings," Otere expressed with a sense of hope.

Nzoia Sugar has been grappling with challenges on and off the field.

Following the suspension of former coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor earlier in the week, Otere took over the helm and has since been steering the team through turbulent waters.

The bottom-placed team has not secured a win in their last four matches, a statistic that has added to the urgency of their situation.

In their recent match against Police Nzoia showed signs of promise, according to Otere.

"We played well, unlike last weekend. We managed to contain the opponent, but when they scored the first goal through a penalty, the concentration from my boys dropped. But I have to congratulate the boys; they played well," he remarked, appreciating his team's efforts despite the adverse result.

The Sugar Millers have taken steps to bolster their squad, introducing new talents in a bid to strengthen their position.

So far the club has unveiled three players: defender Daniel Masengo from Shitaho Soccer SC in Kakamega County, Sharif Ali from fellow FKF Premier League team Muhoroni Youth, and striker Obed Washington Manyonyi from Rosterman United.

These additions are seen as vital for a team that has conceded 30 goals in 19 matches in the 2023/24 campaign.

Otere's strategy focuses not only on immediate results but also on developing younger players for future seasons.

"We have not been able to sign experienced players, but we have gone for the youngsters whom we can develop so that they can be at their best," he explained, highlighting his long-term vision for the team.

The club's journey this season has been arduous, with only three wins in their opening 19 matches and just one victory in the last six games.
