Furious Tusker Coach Suspects Sabotage After His Team Shipped in Seven Against Sofapaka

Tusker FC coach Charles Okere has turned the spotlight on his players who he feels deliberately let in goals as they embarrassingly lost 7-1 to Sofapaka on Sunday.

Tusker coach Charles Okere suspects his players might have deliberately let in goals during their 7-1 thrashing by Sofapaka on Sunday.

Okere’s team all but kicked the FKF Premier League title race goodbye when they were handed the humiliating loss by Sofapaka, who were four goals to the good by halftime, before completing the rout in the second half.

The manner in which his team collapsed has left Okere suspecting sabotage from his players who had been favourites to clinch the league title at the turn of the year.

“The worst performance ever. I do not know if it was psychological or what because the players were not able to do anything,” Okere told Azam TV.

“Everything we tried was not going to plan so you wonder if it is deliberate because sometimes it looks like they were just willingly letting in goals and these are players we have invested in.

“There is no need to struggle like that, the league is a marathon, we have struggled to get to this point then we just let it slip. We have embarrassed ourselves, this is Tusker, a big team, but we played like we just came to honour a fixture. It cannot be allowed.”

Defeat left Tusker in second position with 55 points, six behind leaders Kenya Police, with two games to go and the law enforcers can be crowned if they beat Shabana FC in their penultimate match.

However, Okere is still defiant over the title race even as he slammed his players.

“No one has been crowned yet so we will push until the end but Tusker is a big team that needs character. We cannot be playing this kind of football. We have done our homework about how to beat the opponent but when we get to the pitch, we do things differently,” he further lamented.

“Conceding seven goals means even defensively, we were just allowing the opponent to score. This is a big team and if a player cannot handle it, they should leave.”

Tusker have matches against Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz before they conclude their season.
