Hapless Tusker Collapse in Humiliating Defeat to Sofapaka as Kenya Police Step Closer to History

Tusker were absolutely humiliated by Sofapaka, appearing to give up on the league title like their counterparts Gor Mahia, with Kenya Police winning to edge even closer to making history,.

Tusker's title aspirations were left in tatters after suffering one of the most humiliating defeats in recent Kenyan top-flight history, as they were dismantled 7-1 by a ruthless Sofapaka side on Sunday.

The Batoto ba Mungu were unstoppable from the outset at Dandora Stadium, taking an early 12th-minute lead through Edward Omondi’s composed finish.

Just 16 minutes later, Wayne Otieno — nicknamed "Messi" by fans — doubled the advantage with a clever strike, sparking chants of “Okere must go” from irate Tusker supporters aimed at their head coach.

There was no let-up from Sofapaka, with Jack Onganya adding a third in the 37th minute before finding the net again in first-half stoppage time to make it 4-0.

The damage only deepened after the break. Rodgers Kipkemoi won and converted a penalty in the 64th minute to stretch the lead to five, moments after Tusker had briefly pulled one back through a rare attacking spell.

But Sofapaka were not done. Omondi made it 6-1 in the 91st minute before Jack Onganya completed his hat-trick to cap off a historic day, sealing a staggering 7-1 victory for Sofapaka.

It was a result that all but extinguishes Tusker's fading hopes of challenging for the title, and piles immense pressure on the club's technical bench.

Kenya Police Edge Closer to Title

Meanwhile, Kenya Police FC continue to quietly but firmly stake their claim for the crown, grinding out a 1-0 win over FC Talanta in Machakos.

David Simiyu was the hero of the day, breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute after receiving a precise defence-splitting pass from Charles Ouma.

The Law Enforcers controlled much of the match, with Bajaber Mohammed coming close to doubling the lead and later leaving the pitch injured.

Despite being denied a second by a dramatic goal-line clearance in the 24th minute, Kenya Police held on to their narrow lead, thanks to disciplined defending and smart tactical changes by coach Ettiene Ndayiragije, including second-half introductions of Kenneth Muguna and Marvin Nabwire.

With Tusker imploding and Kenya Police holding firm, the title race is now tilting towards the disciplined and determined Police outfit — who now seem poised to make history of their own.
