Harambee Stars winger Ayub Timbe joins Azerbaijan's Sabail FK as the first Kenyan in the league.

Harambee Stars winger Ayub Timbe has joined Azerbaijan top-flight side Sabail FK on a short-term deal.

Timbe joins Sabail FK after a brief but impactful stint with Nanjing City in China, where he has been showcasing his skills since March 2023.

Sabail FK, based in the vibrant city of Baku, confirmed the arrival of the Kenyan star with an official statement.

"We have completed the transfer of another footballer during the winter period. Following the acquisition of Madi Queta, the team has now signed a contract with Kenyan footballer Ayub Masika, lasting until the end of the season," the club announced.

Timbe brings a wealth of experience from his previous clubs including Genk, Lierse, Beijing Renhe, Reading, Vissel Kobe, and Buriram United.

His international experience is expected to be invaluable for Sabail FK.

In addition to his club career, Timbe is a proud member of the Harambee Stars.

Over his career, he has netted 4 goals in 28 matches, a record that speaks to his skill and consistency on the field.

Sabail FK, a relatively new team in the Premyer Liqa, Azerbaijan's top flight, has been making significant strides since its establishment in 2016.

They play their home matches at the Bayil Stadium, which has a capacity of 3,200.

The club's participation in the UEFA Europa League in 2019, although they were eliminated in the first qualifying round by Romania's Universitatea Craiova, showcases their growing stature in European football.

Currently positioned fifth in the ten-team league with 26 points after 18 games, Sabail FK has set its sights on climbing higher in the league standings.

Timbe's arrival is timed perfectly as the team prepares to face the third-placed Zira on Monday, 22nd January 2024.
