Gor Mahia head coach McKinstry is planning minimal changes in the transfer window as he aims to maintain the team's strong league performance.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has made it clear that the club will be judicious in their player acquisitions during the mid-season transfer window.

Despite the open Football Kenya Federation Premier League January transfer window and the expectations for clubs to bolster their squads, McKinstry has expressed confidence in his current lineup, suggesting only minimal changes.

Under McKinstry's leadership, K'Ogalo has been performing exceptionally which seems to influence their transfer strategy.

"Yeah, well look, at the moment we're talking to two or three guys, but I have already sort of gone on record and said we don't create lists specifically for January. We create lists for July because that's when you can get the best-quality players.

"It is in the July window, that they (players) are at the end of their contracts, their teams are more willing to release players at that stage. If we can get one or two of those guys early, then by all means we will bring them in early," McKinstry explained.

This strategy aligns with McKinstry's broader vision of building a robust team capable of sustained success.

By focusing on the July window, Gor Mahia can tap into a richer pool of talent, securing players who are not just temporary fixes but long-term assets.

The mid-season transfer window, which opened on January 8, 2024, and is set to close on February 8, 2024, presents a unique challenge.

With Gor Mahia enjoying a stellar run, not having lost a match in six months, the need for major changes seems minimal.

However, McKinstry is open to the idea of enhancing the squad with one or two quality players.

"But at the same time, we've got a group of players here who haven't lost a football match for six months. So we are not looking to make too many changes. You know, yes, if we can add one or two guys of quality, then absolutely, but at the same time, we've got a full squad," McKinstry said.

The competition's rules state that only players whose transfers and/or registrations are completed by Wednesday of every week will be eligible for weekend matches.

This regulation ensures that the competitions department has sufficient time to process the licenses, maintaining the integrity and smooth running of the league.

Currently Gor Mahia is in a formidable position leading the league with 37 points from 17 games.

Their closest competitors Nairobi City Stars trail by seven points highlighting Gor Mahia's dominance under McKinstry's guidance.
