Gor Mahia’s FKF Premier League title loss to Kenya Police is a blessing in disguise that will fuel a stronger return next season, starting with their FKF Cup final clash against Nairobi United.

Despite being dethroned by Kenya Police FC in the FKF Premier League title race, record champions Gor Mahia have been tipped for a strong comeback.

Former Kenyan international and league veteran Allan Wanga believes that the setback could be a “blessing in disguise” for the Green Army, sparking new hunger and determination within the squad.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, Wanga praised the competitive nature of this season's league, suggesting that Gor Mahia’s defeat might be exactly what they need to reignite their dominance.

"I think it's a good thing," said the former Harambee Stars player on Kenya Police dethroning Kenya Police.

"I also believe that teams like Gor Mahia will come back stronger next season than even other teams because for the longest time they have been winning the league."

Wanga added that moments of change inject new life into long-dominant sides, breaking complacency and offering fresh motivation.

"Sometimes change is nice and a motivation as well. It's also a motivation for other teams that have been challenging for the top spot and I believe that will propel them (Gor Mahia) next season because they will give their best."

He further acknowledged that the success of other clubs like Kenya Police boosts league competitiveness, saying, “It’s always good when different teams win the league.”

Gor Mahia will not have to wait until next season to reclaim some glory.

The record champions will face Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final on Sunday at Ulinzi Sports Complex, a match that carries major continental implications.

The winner of the clash will not only lift domestic silverware but also secure a coveted slot in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds, joining Kenya Police as Kenya’s continental flagbearers.

For Gor Mahia, the final offers a shot at redemption and a perfect springboard into what many, including Wanga, expect to be a ferocious comeback season.
