Arsenal have wasted little time in finding a replacement for Thomas Partey after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Ghana midfielder.

Arsenal have swiftly secured Brentford captain Christian Norgaard in a deal worth £15 million, potentially rising to £20 million with add-ons after contract negotiations with Thomas Partey stalled.

Norgaard is set for a medical in London, with personal terms expected to be finalised soon. This transfer represents a significant opportunity for the 31-year-old Danish international, who has been instrumental in Brentford's Premier League success since joining in 2019.

While Arsenal haven't completely ruled out re-signing Partey, whose contract expires this month, the acquisition of Norgaard suggests a firm stance against excessive wage demands.

Norgaard brings valuable Premier League experience and leadership to Mikel Arteta's midfield.

Despite signing a new two-year contract with Brentford in March to avoid relocating his family amidst interest from Benfica, the lure of Champions League football and competing for titles at the Emirates has proven irresistible for Norgaard.

Brentford’s Squad is Getting Decimated

Brentford have faced significant upheaval since the end of the season. Head coach Thomas Frank and three of his staff have departed for Tottenham, and Manchester United are reportedly close to a £60 million deal for striker Bryan Mbeumo.

While Frank had hoped to bring Mbeumo to Spurs, the Cameroonian forward appears to prefer Old Trafford. Frank was also interested in Norgaard, having previously worked with him in the Danish youth setup and at Brondby.

However, Arsenal acted decisively, offering Brentford a compelling fee for a player integral to Frank's system.

This transfer signals an ambitious summer for Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta, with Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi also targeted as a £55 million replacement for the departed Jorginho.
