The turf, sound and LED systems are nearing completion as Kasarani Stadium braces itself for CHAN 2024.
The final touches to completely refurbish Kasarani Stadium are ongoing as the arena braces to host the upcoming 2024 African Nations Champioship (CHAN) set to be co-hosted by Kenya this August.
The stadium, which was officially confirmed as the arena that will host the final of the tournament, has been going through phase two of renovations since April, when the placing of the roofing canopy, as well as seat and lift installation was completed.
Among the final touches being implemented are the installation of a new sound system, VAR (Video Assistant Referee) infrastructure, LED screens, and the laying of an artificial turf over the former running track area.

A video uploaded by Wanderlust on YouTube provides a detailed visual update on the progress. The artificial turf being laid is not intended for athletic competition, but rather to enhance the stadium’s appearance, as the once-functional tartan track was damaged during the two-year-long renovation period, which saw extensive use of heavy machinery and foot traffic.
The government has announced that a brand-new athletic track will be installed after CHAN, with a projected completion date set for the end of 2025—part of Kenya’s broader stadium readiness plan for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
