Nairobi United's Ghanaian goalkeeper Ernest Muhammed has explained why he is not worried about Gor Mahia ahead of the FKF Cup final on Sunday.

Nairobi United’s semi-final penalty hero Ernest Muhammed has explained why he is not worried by the threat of Gor Mahia ahead of their FKF Cup final clash against the record league champions at the Ulinzi Sports Complex next Sunday.

Speaking to FKF TV, Muhammed, who joined Nairobi United in 2023, exuded confidence and calmness ahead of the biggest match in the club’s recent history.

“I am very prepared for the final. I have no pressure. I have played against some of the biggest Premier League teams before and I won,” he said.

“Gor Mahia is just any other game. Whatever happens on the field is just a game. May the best football team win.”

And he has the record to back up those words. Nairobi United have knocked out four top-tier sides en route to the final — Tusker FC, KCB, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Mara Sugar — with Muhammed playing a pivotal role in each tie, particularly in the pressure-filled penalty shootouts.

In the semi-final against Mara Sugar, the keeper saved three penalties to seal a dramatic victory, earning himself the Man of the Match award and a KSh 100,000 prize from competition sponsors Mozart Bet.

From Ghana to MYSA – The Journey Behind the Gloves

The Nairobi United No.1 also used that cash reward in a symbolic gesture — giving it back to the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA), an organization that welcomed him when he first arrived in Kenya.

“When I came to Kenya, a friend of mine called Emmanuel who is out of the country introduced me to the goalkeeping clinic here. I trained with them and I felt at home,” he recalled.

“I just felt whatever they gave me, it was time to give them back.”

Muhammed’s gesture has won hearts beyond the football pitch, highlighting a strong connection to grassroots football and a sense of loyalty to those who helped him integrate into Kenyan football.

Call to Fans: ‘We’ll Give Them the Trophy’

With Nairobi United one step away from making history, Muhammed is rallying fans to show up in full force for the final showdown.

“They should come in numbers because we need their support — and they won’t be disappointed. We will give them the trophy,” he vowed.

Whether or not Nairobi United lift their first major silverware on Sunday, Ernest Muhammed has already made his mark — as a clutch performer, a grounded professional, and an unlikely hero of Kenya’s biggest cup competition this season.
