Hellen Obiri has highlighted the key differences in training between Kenya and the US.
Hellen Obiri has shared a contradicting opinion about training in Kenya compared to training in the US for marathons.
Most of the time, long-distance athletes from abroad tend to relocate to Kenya or Ethiopia for marathon training but Obiri prefers training in the US.
Great examples of marathon runners who train in the two countries include Abdi Nageeye (Kenya), Sarah Hall (Ethiopia) and Sifan Hassan (Ethiopia). The top athletes defend their claims, insisting that the altitudes in Kenya and Ethiopia are conducive for training as compared to abroad.

‘Noah was tired of me trying’ - Junelle Bromfield relieved as Christmas gift from fiancé Noah Lyles solves her main headache
Olympics champion Noah Lyles decided to end his fiancé Junelle Bromfield’s recent embarrassing experiments by gifting her a Christmas present that solved her woes for good.
The two-time Boston Marathon champion revealed that her new coach Dathan Ritzenhein has been very instrumental in shaping her career and unlike her previous coaches, Ritzenhein actually cares.
She disclosed to Sports Wave Africa Foundation that her coach is big on ensuring she does realistic training routines that will not hurt her in the long run and that is something she never experienced in Kenya.
Obiri further revealed that while in Kenya, gym training was not a thing but since she moved to the US, it is part of her training and it has helped her a lot. She added that if Kenyans did gym training, then they would be extremely lethal.

“I haven’t noticed many differences but one thing for sure here is that there is always someone to correct you when you make mistakes. In the US, my coach always sets realistic goals and he is always telling me when I do things that might affect me in the long run,” Hellen Obiri said.
“The coach is also big on recovery so that when I wake up, my body feels like it’s ready to go instead if burning out. In Kenya I didn’t do enough gym and strength training exercise.
“Here, I have 100% because the gym is there, the coach and the instructors are also there. I think the gym work is the most important thing, I never did that in Kenya and I was that strong.”

'Would expose most of his tattoos!’- Josh Kerr aims brutal dig at Jakob Ingebrigtsen after he opts not to sign up to Grand Slam track
Josh Kerr has reignited his rivalry with Jakob Ingebrigtsen, critiquing his absence from Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam League.
Hellen Obiri further noted that she wants to enjoy her career and to be there for long since her decision to run a few races every season. She insisted that money is not her motivation unlike other athletes whose main focus is on making money and ending their careers.
After a race, one of the things Obiri does is visiting her physiotherapist where they get to check her body and advise on how her training should proceed in case of an injury.
“So many people are always chasing money but for me, doing two marathons in a year will make me strong. I take two weeks off after a marathon, eating well, spending time with my family and seeing a physiotherapist,” Obiri said.
