Misoi will be making a return after his dominant victory during last year’s edition where he cut the tape in 2:06:11.

Defending champion Brimin Misoi has his work cut out as he braces up for a grand return to the Frankfurt Marathon scheduled for Sunday 29 October.

Misoi will be making a return after his dominant victory during last year’s edition where he cut the tape in 2:06:11. He will not have an easy run at the event since one of the greatest Ethiopian marathoners, Guye Adola, will also be in action.

Adola won the Berlin Marathon in 2021 and lines up with a Personal Best time of 2:03:46 to his credit.

The Ethiopian stands out not only for his impressive record time, achieved in his marathon debut in Berlin in 2017, but also for challenging the great Eliud Kipchoge up to the 40-kilometer mark. Unfortunately, injuries have halted Adola’s progress in recent times but he is slowly coming back.

Misoi’s compatriot Samwel Mailu who finished runner-up last year will also be in the race with the hope of going one place better.

Demonstrating consistent form, Mailu triumphed at the Vienna Marathon on April 23 with a personal and course record of 2:05:08, ranking him 10th in the 2023 marathon standings.

In the women’s race, another Kenyan, Visiline Jepkesho, leads the strong field with a personal best of 2:21:37. Magdalyne Masai, another Kenyan athlete, stands out for her 2:24:12 win in Vienna, though her best time is 2:22:16 from her Toronto victory in 2019.

Ethiopia's Buzunesh Gudeta, who recorded a 2:22:38 finish in Barcelona earlier this year will also be in action.

Matea Parlov Kostro from Croatia, has also been making waves, clocking a personal best of 2:25:45 in Hanover this spring, indicating her continual improvement and she will be in action in the race.

Jo Schindler, the race director, eagerly anticipates an amazing experience as the race marks the 40th edition.
