Tanui has not raced internationally since May last year.
The 2016 Olympic 10,000m silver medallist Paul Tanui is poised to make his full marathon debut at Sunday’s Daegu Marathon.
Tanui comes back into competition after almost a year of being in the cold, his last race being last year’s TCS World 10k race in Bengaluru, India in May. In the race, he could only manage a 13th place finish in 29:35.
His full marathon debut comes as a shock to many considering he has only raced in one half marathon race back in 2014, the Lisboa Half Marathon where he finished seventh.
The 2011 World Cross-country silver medallist will be lining up with a personal best time of 1:02:48 over the 21km distance.

ATHLETICS Kipchoge sets eyes on another milestone at Boston Marathon
The men’s field this year has attracted some elite athletes including defending champion Evans Chebet.
The 2017 world 10,000m bronze medallist will enjoy the company of compatriots Abraham Kiptoo, 2011 world marathon champion Abel Kirui, 2021 Zurich marathon champion Samuel Kosgei, Kiptoo Abraham and Bethwell Kipkemboi.
Others in the mix include Albert Kangogo, Edwin Kosgei, Stanley Kiprotich, Josphat Kiprotich, Nicholas Rotich, Pius Kirop, Titus Kiptoo and John Kametho.
The women’s race has attracted the 2022 Malaga Marathon champion Risper Chebet and 2019 Tallin Half Marathon champion Janet Ruguru who will be looking to fly the country’s flag high. Chebet and Ruguru have respective personal best times of 2:23:45 and 2:25:34.
