In 2018, Cheserek produced the second-fastest indoor time in history over the mile (3:49.44).
Being one of the most decorated track and field athletes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) history, Edward Cheserek is keen on making his debut over the full marathon distance this year.
Cheserek revealed that he is not sure where he will be making his debut but was, however, bubbling with enthusiasm with the thought of making his maiden appearance in the 42km distance.
He noted that he has been competing in the other short races and he now thinks it is time for him to make the big move.
“I have been competing in other races and I want to upgrade. Hopefully, I will get to my debut over the marathon in the near future. It could be the New York City Marathon or any other one, my management will decide
I just want to go deep into training so that I can accomplish my dream of making my marathon debut. At the moment, I don’t know where my next race will be,” he said.
During last weekend’s New York City Half Marathon, Cheserek settled for fifth place after clocking 1:02:58.
As compared to last year’s event where he placed second in 1:00:37, he noted that the race was a bit challenging and the weather was also unfavourable.

“The race was good, I tried so hard but it was a bit tough. It was really cold. Last year, the weather was good and I was hoping a repeat of the same this year, but you can’t control the weather,” he said.
