Berhane Tesfaye and Sharon Kiptugen claimed victory at the 2025 Copenhagen Marathon, each earning over Ksh 1 million in prize money.

The 2025 Copenhagen Marathon saw some of the most talented road runners descend on the starting line on Sunday, May 11.

The men’s race saw Eritrea’s Berhane Tesfaye and Kenya’s Vincent Mutai battle for the top prize, with the former having the last laugh.

The duo stuck to the leading pack, with their efforts paying off well as the Eritrean claimed the top honours in a time of 2:08:25.

Vincent Mutai, who was making his debut over the full marathon distance, managed a second-place finish, clocking a stunning 2:09:09. Ethiopia’s Yismaw Atinafu then rounded up the podium in a time of 2:10:32.

The women’s race was also impressive, with Kenya’s Sharon Kiptugen, who was also debuting in the race, clocking a stunning 2:23:19.

The Ethiopian duo of Sofia Assefa and Abebech Afework finished second and third in 2:26:21 and a personal best time of 2:28:37, respectively.

Sharon Kiptugen, in her full marathon debut, was cautious enough to control the race from the start and maintained her place until she crossed the finish line first.

The Ethiopian duo worked around the clock to dethrone her, but their efforts could only allow them to finish second and third.
