Michael Johnson recently entered a partnership with Winners Alliance and he has given a glimpse of his main goal as he seeks to provide a platform for great track and field athletes.

Four-time Olympic champion Michael Johnson is seeking to provide opportunities for track and field athletes in his new partnership with Winners Alliance, a global athlete licensing and sponsorship firm.

The partnership seeks to launch a new professional track and field league that aims to better engage existing fans by providing a TV-friendly product to promote the sport’s biggest stars and draw new audiences through unique storytelling.

Johnson noted that during his time, he was privileged to get opportunities to showcase his talent but after his retirement, he has always been disappointed with how track and field athletes do not get such chances.

“I’ve observed track as a sport since I retired and just been disappointed that these great athletes don’t get more attention, more opportunities to showcase their talent.

“I was very fortunate to be able to do that at least once, during the Olympics in my own country to make history. That set me up to be able to really create significant value for myself as an athlete as a result of my talent.

“Recognizing that these athletes don’t have that opportunity, I’ve always wondered, ‘Can I create it for them?” Johnson said in a video posted on the Winners Alliance X (Twitter) handle.

Winners Alliance has claimed that this is “the single largest investment in track and field history” with a reported seven-figure sum toward the venture.

As reported by Citius Mag, Johnson has already initiated conversations with potential media partners, sponsors, and prospective investors and the partners are also reportedly in discussions with World Athletics since they do not view the new league as a competitor product. The venture is planning for a 2025 debut.
