Emily Chepkemoi put up a good fight to eventually claim a dominant win in the women's 42 km race at the Nairobi City Marathon.
Emily Chepkemoi destroyed a strong field to claim top honours in the women’s 42km race at the Nairobi City Marathon on Sunday morning, July 6.
Chepkemoi clocked an impressive 2:25:45 to win the race ahead of Vivian Jerotich, who came in second in 2:26:31. Lucy Chelele rounded up the podium in the race, clocking 2:26:35.
Emily Chepkemoi was competing at the event for the second time following a heartbreaking run at the 2022 edition of the event, where she fell and hurt her knee and therefore could not finish the race.

Benson Murkomen braved the chilly weather to claim the win in the men's 42 km race at the Nairobi City Marathon and win himself Ksh 3.5 million.
Emily Chepkemoi: I Was Ready for the Challenge
The 26-year-old was elated to have finally won the race, especially after a challenging encounter on her debut.
Chepkemoi pointed out that she had prepared well for the race and was ready for the win, noting that the weather was her only challenge, but she managed to conquer it.
She added that the course was quite manageable, revealing that at around the 30km mark, she lost her momentum due to the poor weather conditions, but managed to pick herself up, and her effort finally paid off with the victory.

Benson Murkomen braved the chilly weather to claim the win in the men's 42 km race at the Nairobi City Marathon and win himself Ksh 3.5 million.
“I’m happy to have won the race today. I had prepared well for this race, I was coming here to challenge for the win. God is the one who gives victory, and I’m grateful to Him,” Emily Chepkemoi said.
“The course was not that hard to conquer, but the weather was a bit unfavourable. I experienced some challenges, especially after the 30km mark, but I had to hold on and managed to win.”
Emily Chepkemoi started her career in 2012, competing at the Nairobi Kenyan Junior Championships before taking a long break and finally making a comeback in 2017, where she had fully switched to road running.
In 2017, she won the Porto Alegre Circuito CAIXA and went on to finish second at the 2018 Rio de Janeiro Half Marathon.
Emily Chepkemoi returned to the track shortly in 2021 before switching to the roads in 2022 with races at the Eldoret City Marathon and Košice Peace Marathon.
In 2023, she competed at the Ooredoo Doha Marathon, Italian Cross Country Championships and Shanghai Marathon. She finished ninth at the 2024 Paris Marathon and opened her 2025 season on home soil, hoping for a better rest of the season.
