The performance capped a remarkable eight-day stretch for the rising star. He arrived in Oregon fresh off running a personal best of 9.75 seconds to capture his second consecutive Jamaican national title, confirming his status as a medal contender heading into the Paris Olympics.

Despite a less-than-perfect start, Thompson demonstrated composure beyond his years as he surged to the front over the final 30 metres, leaving Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes (9.91) and American Trayvon Bromell (9.94) to settle for second and third, respectively.

Reacting to his emphatic victory, Thompson was clear that his best performances may still be ahead of him as he works to master every element of his race.

"I'm the only one that can stop me. I don't say that to brag, but to be honest, once I better my execution, amazing things are going to happen," he declared in an interview with Diamond League portal.

The Jamaican was candid about the challenges of refining his craft, emphasizing the importance of consistency across all phases of the sprint.

"It's not just one component, it's putting all of them together, from the start to the finish. Because I can work on one component, but if I can't put them together it doesn't make sense," Thompson explained.

While he has already produced some of the fastest times in the world this season, Thompson credited his rivals in the final for pushing him to dig deeper on the day.

"It was a fierce competition, they run me to the line. I'm really appreciative of it, it will help me to get better, step by step, and vice versa for everyone," he said, acknowledging the role of strong opposition in elevating his own performance.

Saturday’s Prefontaine Classic also gave Thompson a taste of the international recognition that now follows him as he builds momentum towards Paris.

"It's work, mental and physical. And you got to trust yourself, trust the process, trust the team, trust the coach, and so forth," he reflected.

As the crowd in Oregon rose to salute his performance, Thompson was struck by the warmth of his reception far from home.

"It's an amazing crowd. I didn't know so many people over here actually knew me," he said with a smile, signalling that the world is indeed watching as he continues his rapid ascent in global sprinting.
