Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, a devout believer in Christ, has revealed why she does not fear losing it all despite being at her prime.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning Olympic and World Champion in the 400m hurdles, says her definition of freedom and success has completely changed since rediscovering her Christian faith during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once driven by fame, attention, and social media validation, the American track star now finds peace and purpose in a life devoted to God.

In a recent appearance on Justin Gatlin and Rodney Green’s Ready Set Go podcast, McLaughlin-Levrone shared how that difficult isolation period led her to reevaluate what truly matters.

“I wanted all of it—attention, fame, money. I fed off it. That was my peace,” she said, reflecting on the early stages of her career.

“But those things are always shifting. Whether it’s social media, track and field, relationships, or money—they were never made to be my ultimate source of peace.”

McLaughlin-Levrone admitted that during that season, she felt anxious and unstable, largely because her identity was tied to things that constantly changed. But rediscovering her faith gave her a solid foundation.

“The beauty of Christ is that the freedom is actually to live the life He’s called us to live. He’s protected us from things for our own good. I’m truly free because He set me free from those pressures.”

She credits her husband, faith community, and inner circle—including her trainer—for helping her stay grounded as her platform grew.

“When you decide to give your life to Christ, people naturally walk away. You become the outlier. But I’m grateful for the people who stayed—and who understand what I stand for.”

Since her breakthrough at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021), McLaughlin-Levrone has firmly established herself among the greatest in track and field history.

She captured Olympic gold in the 400 meters hurdles with a world record time of 51.46 seconds, and also anchored the U.S. team to gold in the 4x400 meters relay.

She followed that up at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with another world record performance of 50.68 seconds in the 400 meters hurdles, further cementing her dominance. McLaughlin-Levrone also won gold in the 4x400 meters relay at the same meet.

In the 2023 and 2024 seasons, she expanded into the flat 400 meters with impressive results, including several victories in the Diamond League and a commanding display at the 2024 Olympics, where she won gold medals in both the 400mH- setting the world record for the sixth time yet again -  and 4 by 400 women’s relays.

With Tokyo 2025 on the horizon, McLaughlin-Levrone is expected to compete in both the 400 meters and 400 meters hurdles, aiming to add to her already glittering résumé—driven not by fame or validation, but by purpose and faith.
