Akani Simbine has his work cut out ahead of the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China happening on Saturday, April 27.

South Africa’s Akani Simbine will take on a strong field of 100m runners at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China on Saturday, April 27.

Simbine will begin his Diamond League campaign and competing in his second 100m race of the 2024 season following a bitter exit from last year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where he got disqualified due to a false start.

He started the season with a win at the South African Championships where he clocked 10.01 to cross the finish line. He now heads to China fired up and ready for the test that awaits him.

Simbine will be up against Christian Coleman, the World Indoor 60m champion and the world record holder over the distance, who is fresh from winning the 100m race at the Diamond League Meeting series opener in Xiamen.

Coleman had a great start to the season where he was also able to claim the 60m title at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Meanwhile, Kerley in his campaign to upgrade his Olympic silver medal to a gold in Paris, France, is hoping to bounce back in Suzhou after finishing second behind Coleman in Xiamen.

The Jamaican Ackeem Blake is also not worth downplaying after he bagged his first world medal at the World Indoor Championships. Blake also finished third behind Coleman and Kerley in Xiamen and he will be looking to improve on that.

Clearly, Simbine has his work cut out and will have to dig deep for a win or podium finish at the event, considering this will be his first Diamond League Meeting and first time he will be competing outside of home soil.
