Shericka Jackson made a winning return in her first 100m of the season in Rabat, expressing happiness with the result.

Jamaican sprint queen Shericka Jackson is pleased with her 100m performance at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat on Sunday night.

Shericka Jackson was competing in her first 100m of the season since the Jamaican Olympic trials last June and was not expecting to win the race.

However, she recovered from a poor start to claim the win dominantly, crossing the finish line first in 11.04 seconds ahead of Liberia's Maia McCoy, who clocked 11.08 seconds. Jacious Sears completed the podium in 11.11 seconds.

The two-time world 200m champion expressed excitement after bagging the win in the race, noting that she is proud of how she executed everything.

However, Shericka Jackson pointed out that there are some things she needs to work on ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, where she intends to defend her 200m title and go one place better in the 100m.

Shericka Jackson was forced to end her 2024 season abruptly after pulling up an injury at the Gyulai István Memorial, a Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix. She missed out on the Paris Olympic Games and will be looking to make up for all the losses she endured.

“It was my first 100m since the Jamaican trials last year in June, and I am happy with the result. I am healthy, and that's the most important thing,” Shericka Jackson said.

“I did a lot of good stuff, but there are a lot of things that I can improve. But it was a good race so I leave this competition with only happy feelings.”

The two-time world 100m silver medallist started her season with a series of 60m races with her last being at the Jamaican World Indoor Qualifiers, where she missed the podium.

She then competed at the Miramar Invitational, finishing an impressive second in the 300m behind Julien Alfred.

Shericka Jackson finished second in the 200m behind Anavia Battle at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen before heading to the World Athletics Relays, where she anchored Team Jamaica to a bronze medal behind Great Britain and Spain.

Shericka Jackson claimed her first win of the season in Rabat and will be looking to build on that momentum going forward.
