Beatrice Chebet has explained her main targets for 2025 after narrowly missing out on setting a new world record in the 3000 meters at the Rabat Diamond League classic on Sunday.
Beatrice Chebet believes it will only be a matter of time before she shatters the 3000 meter world record after delivering a stunning personal best performance in the event during the Rabat Diamond League Classic in Morocco last Sunday.
The Kenyan distance sensation clocked a stunning 8:11.56 to cross the finish line in first place ahead of Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, who also dropped a splendid time, 8:26.27. Ireland’s Sarah Healy rounded up the podium in 8:27.02.
Junxia Wang of China is currently the fastest 3000m runner in the world, having clocked a stunning 8:06.11 in a race in Beijing in September 1993. Another Chinese, Yunxia Qu was second in the rankings with 8:12.18 but Beatrice Chebet has now overtaken her with the splendid time.

)
In what was her first race since the Xiamen Diamond League classic, Chebet expressed her joy and growing belief that a world record could soon be within reach.
“I’m so happy. I can say, like I said yesterday, I came here to run my personal best — my target was to run 8:20 — and now I see I can do more,” she said with a beaming smile.
“I can even run a world record. I see it’s possible. So it's just about believing in yourself and going for it.”
Having impressed with a fearless performance, the double Olympic champion credited her success not just to physical preparation but also to mental readiness.

Despite the growing accolades and personal milestones, she admits that the nerves still come.
“I feel nervous before the race. Everyone does — you feel tense,” she confessed. “But once the race starts, you just say, ‘It’s game time now.’ And then you have to believe in yourself and say, ‘I can do it here.’”

Chebet already boasts an impressive two world records to her name.
She made history in long-distance running by setting two world records within a remarkable six-month span. Her first came on December 10, 2023, at the inaugural World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia, where she shattered the women-only 5km road world record with a time of 14:35, slicing two seconds off the previous mark set by Ethiopia’s Senbere Teferi in 2021.
Chebet’s front-running display on the rain-soaked streets of Riga showcased her exceptional speed endurance and marked her arrival as a dominant force beyond the track.
She followed up that achievement with a commanding performance on May 25, 2024, at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, where she obliterated the world record in the 10,000m. Clocking 28:54.14, Chebet became the first woman in history to break the 29-minute barrier in the event, taking nearly seven seconds off Letesenbet Gidey’s previous record of 29:01.03 set in 2021.
