George Gitau got himself an assist as Middlesborough overcame Norwich 3-2 in a Premier League 2 encounter that took place on Friday evening.

Harambee Stars prospect George Gitau featured for 90 minutes as a right back as Middlesborough u21 sailed to a 3-2 Victory against Norwich City in a Premier League 2  encounter on Friday.

Gitau, who has been a vital part of the backline returning from a short loan spell away from the club, held his own, grabbing an assist as he helped keep Middlesborough’s chances of qualifying for the League Play-offs alive.

Both sides had endured a tough streak of late, making for an intriguing match-up. The Teessiders were placed a point ahead of the Canaries in Premier League 2. Boro initiated the action, with AJ Bridge testing Ellis Craven with a fierce shot from outside the area.

Boro  broke the deadlock with a fine move. Gitau set up Pharell Willis to sweep the ball impressively into the corner, marking his first goal of the season in style.

Number two arrived swiftly, as Sonny Finch, who had already scored against Fulham and Chelsea upon his return from injury, powered into the top corner.

High on confidence, Finch burst through again, rifling wide of the upright as the Teessiders aimed to widen the gap.

The third goal of the game came before the interval, with Eliot Josh  Myles converting directly from a corner to cut the deficit in first-half stoppage time.

In a second-half turning point, parity was restored within four minutes of the restart when Joe Duffy headed in the equalizer for Norwich.

As both teams sought to take command of the contest, the game opened up. Popple made crucial saves to deny Forsyth, and Afonso Lindo’s header was somehow kept at bay by Craven.

Boro coach Mark Tinkler introduced Ajay Matthews and Joe Gibson to get the winner.

The changes proved inspired, with the duo combining for Boro’s third of the evening, finally beating Craven once more. It could have been a fourth goal if not for the Canaries' shot-stopper, with Matthews and Bridge left frustrated by superb keeping as the clock ticked into added time.
