In a recent interview with Olympic.com, he highlighted the growing belief within the nation’s sprinting community.
“I think we are slowly believing in ourselves and our talent—not just saying, ‘OK, we can run,’ but recognizing that we are good enough to be Olympic champions, to be on top of the world,” Simbine said.
His recent performances suggest this belief is not just talk. Simbine clinched emphatic victories in the 100m at both the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets and anchored South Africa to gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2025 World Relays.
These triumphs have solidified his position among the sport's elite and sparked fresh excitement ahead of the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.

This mindset, Simbine says, is contagious, as he traces the roots of this belief back to athletes like Anaso Jobodwana, Caster Semenya, Wayde van Niekerk, Luvo Manyonga, and Rushwahl Samaai—all of whom have made waves on the global stage and fueled the aspirations of fellow South African athletes.
“We are all feeding off each other’s energy. The first guy to win a medal in our generation was Anaso, and the momentum started building from there,” Simbine said.
“Everybody has good spirits between each other. We don’t mind sharing mental tactics. We are working towards getting gold medals for South Africa, making history for our country.”
At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Simbine came agonizingly close to achieving that goal, finishing fourth behind American Fred Kerley, Thompson, and eventual gold medalist Lyles.
