Gor Mahia's goalless draw against Murang'a Seal intensified the Premier League title race but was overshadowed by acts of fan violence.

Gor Mahia was held to a goalless draw in their Kenya Premier League match against Murang’a Seal, as the title race heats up.

The match, which took place on Sunday, May 18, at the St Sebastian Park, saw Gor Mahia fight hard to secure all three points, but Murang’a Seal had a tight defence that worked in their favour throughout the match.

In the match, Gor Mahia struggled to create enough chances as they faced numerous difficulties in penetrating the tight defence that Murang’a Seal had established.

In the second half, Christopher Ochieng seemed to have found the back of the net for Gor Mahia, but the goal was ruled out as an offside, leaving Gor Mahia fans frustrated.

Gor Mahia, who are now third on the Premier League table with 54 points, were forced to walk away empty-handed, something that fans were not pleased with. Kenya Police lead the table with 61 points while Tusker are second with 55.

This resulted in acts of violence, coming just a few weeks after Shabana fans and Gor Mahia fans clashed in a previous match where the former lost 1-0.

Such acts of violence have become increasingly common in Kenya Premier League matches, raising serious concerns.

Kenya Police midfielder Kenneth Muguna was also forced to share his honest opinion on such violent acts from fans, especially when their teams draw or lose matches.

In a tweet shared on X (Twitter), Elijah Momanyi complained about the issue of violence, sharing a text that had been accompanied by a video showing how Gor Mahia fans mishandled a Murang’a Seal fan.

“Just the other day, I condemned what happened in Gusii.....Today too. I want to say this was wrong. Football should be a uniting force that brings communities together, not a battleground for violence and divisions…#FootballKE,” he said in the post.

Replying to the message, Harambee Stars midfielder Muguna urged fans to stay at home if they lack the threshold of withstanding their teams losing or drawing, especially in these crucial stages of the league.

“If you can’t take a loss / draw…Stay at home…It’s very simple. You want to banter people when you win, but when you lose mnaresort (you resort) to violence, opponent wakiwabanter (when they make fun of you) #Notoviolence,” Muguna shared.

Gor Mahia have three matches remaining to prove a point, having played 31, and out of those, won 15, drew nine and lost seven.
