FOOTBALL Gor Mahia seek redemption against tricky Posta Rangers in top of the table clash

Gor Mahia will be keen to avoid a second straight defeat when they host second-placed Posta Rangers with an opportunity to stamp authority in the title race.

Gor Mahia will seek to put their FKF Cup exit behind when they host second-placed Posta Rangers in an FKF Premier League clash in Machakos on Saturday.

K’Ogalo were bundled out of the FKF Cup by lower league side Denmark FC last weekend and then had to deal with news of another transfer ban before the club was cleared on Friday.

Johnathan McKinstry’s men will therefore be out to bring a smile on the faces of their fans but face a tough task against John Kamau’s Posta Rangers who sit second on the log.

K’Ogalo have been criticized recently for their lack of goals as they have not scored more than once since December, with their supporters calling on them to be ruthless in front of goal.

However, Gor Mahia have been efficient, taking their few chances when presented to them and staying tight at the back, and it looks like that is the same strategy that will be employed on Saturday.

Gor Mahia’s last meeting with Posta Rangers saw them win 1-0 on January 6, a result they have recorded in five of their eight matches in 2024, and given how mean the mailmen are at the back, a similar outcome cannot be ruled out.

The league leaders will, however, be wary of a Posta Rangers team that have shown remarkable consistency this season to stay in contention for the title and come into the match with just one defeat from their last five games.

That loss was last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Kenya Police in the FKF Cup but they had been on a four-match unbeaten run in the league, including three wins before that loss.

Like Gor Mahia, Posta Rangers also rarely score more than one goal and have the second best defence in the division, after letting in 11, one more than the league leaders.

It therefore appears to be another tight match at Kenyatta Stadium but Gor Mahia will have to be on the lookout if they have to avoid letting others into the title race.

A win for Gor Mahia will see them open up an 11-point lead over Posta Rangers but defeat would see the gap narrow to five, leading to a tight title race with 11 games to go.
