The global athletics showpiece is slated for August 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.

Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa is not resting on her laurels after her marvelous exploits in Nairobi over the weekend as she eyes a podium finish at the World Championships later in the year.

Moraa obliterated a strong field in the second Athletics Kenya meet held at the Nyayo National Stadium to drive the Kenya Police Service (KPS) 4x400m team to victory.

She had kicked-off her 2023 season with an indoor tour where she placed fourth (2:01.51) in the 800m at the Orlen Copernicus Cup on February 8.

The world 800m bronze medallist then competed at the Lievin World Indoor Meeting in France on February 15 where she settled for second place in a new indoor personal best time of 2:00.61.

Moraa concluded her indoor series at the tour in Madrid where she fizzled out to finish distant eighth in 2:02.85.

“My main focus is qualifying for the World Championships where I want to finish among the top three,” she said.

The global show is slated for August 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.

At last year’s World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Moraa took bronze in 1:56.71 behind USA’s Athing Mu and Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson who took gold and silver respectively.

Moraa is confident her training is progressing well and going forward, she intends to concentrate on her speed work. She, however, noted that her coach might have other plans ahead of the event.

“My coach is the one who has to observe and know the areas that need rectification,” she said.
