Christian Coleman’s turbulent 2025 season took another hit after being defeated twice by 18-year-old sprint sensation.

Christian Coleman's challenging 2025 season continued with an on-track incident involving 18-year-old Maurice Gleaton at the Star Athletics Sprint Series on Saturday, June 14.

Coleman, the 60m world record holder, finished the 100m prelims in 10.03 seconds and the final in 9.93 seconds.

Gleaton, however, stole the show, clocking 9.87 and 9.82 seconds respectively, defeating the veteran sprinter in both races.

5 Most Beautiful CHAN 2024 Stadiums

CHAN 2024 will showcase East Africa’s top stadiums, with a stunning lineup of upgraded, beautiful, and high-capacity venues across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The races themselves were overshadowed by a heated exchange between the two athletes.

According to reports, Gleaton looked back at Coleman while crossing the finish line in the final.

Coleman reportedly felt disrespected and confronted Gleaton, leading to a shouting match. The former Wolrd Champion had to be restrained from escalating the situation further.

As Gleaton walked away, he allegedly taunted Coleman, asking, “How do you get rolled by an 18-year-old?” The incident continued on social media, with Gleaton posting an Instagram story directed at Coleman, boasting about his victory.

Gleaton later issued an apology via a text message, a screenshot of which was shared by Sha’Carri Richardson’s boyfriend.

In the message, Gleaton expressed his respect for both Coleman and Richardson, explaining that his actions were not intended to be disrespectful. He admitted his excitement at racing against Coleman and hoped for forgiveness.

Coleman responded graciously, accepting Gleaton's apology and offering encouragement. He acknowledged Gleaton's recent successes and invited him to reach out for advice in the future.

Coleman shared the exchange on social media, signaling a resolution to the conflict.

This incident adds to a string of disappointments for Coleman in 2025. He has yet to win an individual race this season, posting a series of second, third, fourth, and fifth-place finishes in various competitions.

His results include a third-place finish at the Tom Jones Memorial in April, a fourth-place finish at the Xiamen Diamond League, and several other less-than-stellar performances.

All eyes are on the former World Champion as he gets into the rhythm of an action packed campaign.
