A Platform for Change and Inspiration

In a heartfelt question-and-answer session with For the Win, she explained that donning the national colors carries deep significance — not just as an athlete, but as a Black woman.

“To have the brand Team USA across my chest represents a level of pride ― that I am as a Black woman, knowing that where I come from ― [which] continues to represent a certain level of resilience that my I am my ancestors' wildest dreams, and I will continue to, you know, open that door up to anybody that feels like that door has been closed on them,” Richardson said.

Richardson's Olympic journey, marked by her flair, fierce determination, and emotional connection to her roots, has resonated with fans worldwide.

She noted that every time she lines up at the start, she carries the hopes of a generation that often feels unseen — especially young Black athletes trying to find their place in elite sports.

Beyond personal accolades, she believes the Team USA badge symbolizes unity, resilience, and an unyielding spirit.

Representing the United States is not just about medals for Richardson — it’s about carrying forward a powerful legacy and breaking barriers along the way.

“As well as wearing Team USA across my chest, it represents a country that is always gonna show up and show out. Always gonna put their best foot forward. Always is going to know that, 'Hey, if you see me, you know that I'm working to be the best,'” she added.

In an interview with Essence, Richardson shared that her pre-race motivation is deeply tied to her rigorous training and the unwavering support of her family and fans.

“I cannot walk into a race without fully feeling the emotions from training, or the emotions from the motivation, or the inspiration I get from my fans, my family. So when I walk out onto the track, that is what my heart is filled with, and that is the adrenaline that gets me going. As soon as my foot, my spike, hits the track, my heart confirms that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be and who I am,” Richardson shared.
