Ferdinand Omanyala will be up against a strong field that comprises America's 20-year-old sprint sensation at the Atlanta City Games.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala faces a stern test as he gears up for the Atlanta City Games on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in Piedmont Park.

He will be competing in the 100m race where he will be up against American wunderkind Erriyon Knighton. The Commonwealth Games champion is yet to win any 100m race this season and he will be hoping to make a statement in Atlanta.

He was hoping to defend his Kip Keino Classic title but the opposition proved too strong for him and he was forced to settle for a fifth place in the hotly contested race that was won by America’s Kenny Bednarek.

He was also at the World Athletics Relays, hoping to propel the men’s 4x100m relay team to Olympic qualification but they unfortunately faltered and missed out on Olympic qualification.

Omanyala has great ambitions ahead of the Olympic Games and competing against strong fields in his build-up will certainly play a huge role in executing a good race in Paris.

Meanwhile, Knighton settled for silver in the 200m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and he looks to be off to a good start this season.

He competed in one race in his indoor tour, the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF where he managed to win the 60m race.

He is yet to compete outdoors and will be gauging his body at the Atlanta City but with his track record of posting faster times and recording great results, it is with no doubt that he will be looking to impress.

America’s Ronnie Baker and Kendal Williams have also been confirmed for the race with Jamaica’s Jelani Walker and Ryiem Forde will also be in the mix.
