Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson is eagerly awaiting his next clash with American rival Noah Lyles, predicting "fireworks" whenever the rematch of the 2024 Paris Olympics 100m final takes place.

Lyles narrowly defeated Thompson by a mere 0.005 seconds in Paris 11 months ago, and the two have not raced head-to-head since.

Thompson, in top form ahead of the Prefontaine Classic on July 5, which Lyles will not be attending, expressed his excitement for another showdown.

"I'm a very competitive person," Thompson stated in the build up to Saturday's showdown.

"I might not show it, but when competing against someone phenomenal and I think he is a phenomenal athlete, a great rival and it is going to be fireworks for sure."

It is uncertain whether the two speedsters will meet before the World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September 13-21.

Lyles has yet to compete in the 100m or 200m this season. Meanwhile, Thompson is on a roll after winning the 100m at the Jamaican national trials with a blazing time of 9.75 seconds on June 27.

Looking ahead, he added, "Anything is possible, but I won't jinx it. I just have to come out there, execute, do my best, and enjoy myself."

Thompson's career-best time makes him the sixth-fastest 100m runner in history, trailing only Justin Gatlin (9.74), Asafa Powell (9.72), Yohan Blake (9.69), Tyson Gay (9.69), and world record-holder Usain Bolt (9.58).

Aware of his place among sprinting legends, Thompson acknowledged, "I think I'm aware subconsciously, but I don't let it overshadow anything I have to focus on."
