Christian Coleman is aiming for a breakthrough at the Prefontaine Classic, where he will face in-form sprinter Kishane Thompson.

Christian Coleman has sent a stark warning to his rivals as he chases a third successive win at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, July 5.

The former world champion has struggled this season, failing to secure a win in any of his races, and he will be looking to impress the home crowd as he goes for his first victory of the season against a stacked field.

Christian Coleman skipped the indoor season and started his 2025 outdoors, competing at the Pepsi Florida Relays. His final race was at the Star Athletics Sprint Series, where he finished second in the final of the men’s 100m.

Christian Coleman lines up against the likes of world leader Kishane Thompson, Trayvon Bromell, Bayanda Walaza and Ackeem Blake.

Despite the tough competition awaiting him, Coleman believes he has all it takes to finally make a mark after a period of struggling that has cast doubt over his form.

Christian Coleman pointed out that his training has been impressive, and he is confident of dropping a splendid time in the race.

“I think it will be a really big breakthrough for me. I just want to get out there, first of all, just have fun, and just execute what I know I’m capable of,” Coleman told Flo Track.

“I’ve been feeling really good in training, and I feel like the stars are aligning for me. I just want to get out of my own way, get out there and just compete.”

Christian Coleman revealed that he only believes in his journey, and as far as his training is concerned, he is on the right track.

He admitted to having struggled and failed to hit his targets as the season started, but noted that it was because of changing coaches. Coleman joined Sha’Carri Richardson’s training camp in Florida just before the US Olympic trials last year.

Christian Coleman pointed out that there have been a lot of things to learn and unlearn, and he is slowly getting back into shape after adapting.

Coleman added that he is becoming the sprinter he has always dreamt of and believes that the Prefontaine Classic will be a platform for him to finally show what he is capable of.

“I think for me, I mean it's cliche, but you really have to lock in on your journey and your process, and not let any outside factors come in between you and what you know that you're capable of doing, and your process of you just working to be your best self,” Christian Coleman said.

“I think that's it for me…all year I feel as if like even if I haven't gotten the specific results that I wanted, I've been able to take small victories and just continue to build. I mean, I'm not one to make excuses, and I feel like just coming into this season, I knew it would be a little bit different.

“I knew that I would just have to control the controllables, specifically because I'm in a whole new training group, whole new training environment, and a whole new program.”

With renewed confidence, a fresh training setup, and a point to prove, Christian Coleman is poised to turn the page and make a powerful statement at the Prefontaine Classic.
