Even though they got off to a good start, Manengai Oilers coach Gibson Weru believes his side made mistakes that they must avoid against Mwamba this weekend

Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru has revealed the areas his side will work on in order to pick up where they left off as they beat Homeboyz 43-13 in their opening Kenya Cup fixture last Saturday.

The side are trying to make ammends for their campaign last year, when they reached the playoff semi-finals having finished third on the table by going for the ultimate prize this season.

Even though they got off to a good start, Weru believes the side still made mistakes they must avoid when they face Mwamba in their second match of the season.

"A good victory to start the season, very good things that we have seen. Our set pieces were solid, our defence did well towards the end and there was good game management," Weru said as quoted on the club’s social media handles.

"There are still areas that need addressing, especially our open play. We conceded so many attacking penalties which should not happen at this level.

"We also conceded a few penalties on defence which were not forced so those are some of the areas we need to work on this week before we take on Mwamba."

A couple of players made their debuts for the Nakuru based side, and Weru gave his honest assessment on their performances.

"I think Celestine (Mboi) on a scale of 1-10, I’ll give him an 8. He got all his lineout throws, he also carried well and defended well. Alvin (Khavoli) continued his good form, Elkeans (Musonye) again, scored despite being on the pitch for a few minutes. He also worked hard for the team," added Weru.

Oilers crashed out in the semi-finals last season, falling 38-20 to losing finalists KCB in Ruaraka.
