RUGBY KCB boss Olago slams charges despite giving Nondies rude Kenya Cup return

KCB beat Nondies 45-8 to get off to a perfect start to the season, but Olago remains far from impressed.

KCB RFC head coach Curtis Olago was far from happy despite the fact his charges obliterated returning Nondies in their first Kenya Cup match of the 2023-2024 season.

Seeking to lay their hands on the coveted Kenya Cup title that has evaded them over the past two seasons, the Curtis Olago-coached side recorded a bonus point victory after running six tries past the record Kenya Cup champions who were playing their first match following promotion back from the KRU Championship.

Former Blak Blad ace Lionel Ajeliti bagged a brace with Griffin Musila, Bob Muhati, Michael Kimwele, and Felix Ojoo also touching down to seal the emphatic victory for the Bankers, who did little to please their demanding head coach.

“It was good but we were lethargic in the first half. I am not really impressed with our play,” Olago said after the match.

“We keep improving. Our game tempo was so low, we kept getting lost in the system. We will have to work on what let us down in this game and then pick up from there.”

KCB attempted to play for scrums for large parts of the game, and Olago has explained that the intention was to try and tire down the Nondies forwards.

“We wanted to tire down that front eight. We kept on going for the scrum."

KCB have missed out on lifting the Kenya Cup in each of the last two seasons, and despite the fact the club aims for nothing but victory, Olago has chosen not to get ahead of himself when quizzed about the side’s title chances.

“I still do not know. I do not want to get ahead of myself. We just have to keep working. A game at a time.”
