Kenya Morans coach remains confident of winning the Africa Sevens Cup, which his team last claimed in 2023, despite selecting an inexperienced team.

Kenya Morans coach Louis Kisia has his eyes firmly on reclaiming the Africa Sevens title from Uganda ahead of this year’s edition in Mauritius.

Team Kenya sent a largely young side to the tournament in a bid to give the fringe players enough exposure after most of them missed out on the World Sevens Series last season and despite their inexperience, Kisia is confident of a great outing.

“This is a huge tournament and as always we want to go there and be successful. There is always everything to play for in the tournament and the boys want to win every game and become African champions,” Kisia told Telecomasia.net.

What is Giving Morans Coach Confidence?

“We last won this in 2023 when we beat South Africa and qualified for the Olympic Games and we want to reclaim it. We have had ample training time with the personnel we needed and we are ready to compete for the title.”

Kenya will face Ivory Coast, Ghana and Uganda at the tournament set to take place from June 21-22 at Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius.

Kisia selected 12 players, including four debutantes, who will be looking to prove a point with the hope of being named in upcoming tournaments although Shujaa stars George ‘Japolo’ Ooro, who will be captain, and his deputy Chrisant Ojwang, provide the much-needed knowhow.

Ojwang is making a return after missing the majority of the World Sevens Series due to an injury suffered during the opening leg in Dubai last year.
