Shujaa co-captain George Ooro. Kenya Morans Co-Captain George Ooro was among the standout players.

After struggling to create inroads in the first half, Kenya finally broke the deadlock in the eighth minute through Dennis Abukuse, who picked the ball from a scrum and paced his way to the try box to put them into a 5-0 lead.

George Ooro would then make it a second try a minute later, with the Ugandan defence now being totally opened, although it was also not converted.

Uganda would however become the first team to score a try against Kenya with two minutes on the clock remaining.

Although Uganda threatened to get back, the Kenyans had enough about themselves to see out the match and complete day one top of the group.

Kenya 34-0 Ivory Coast

Floyd Wabwire scored the first try when he received the ball from Lameck Ambetsa and intelligently dodged his way through his markers before making a blistering run into the try box from the right wing to ne t a well converted try.

Floyd Wabwire netted a second try in not-too dissimilar version not long after that after the Kenyans did well to take advantage of a scrum and flung the ball to the right wing wing, before the Menengai Oilers man paced again to the try box for the second.

Dennis Abukuse then made a curved run from a maul to net the Morans’ third try of the match, which was well converted, and now the Kenyans were away and cruising.

Andrew Matoka then netted another try in easy version on his debut, with the Ivory Coast defence now clearly in sixes and sevens.

Floyd Wabwire then completed his hat trick with two minutes to play after finding space again down the right flank, before Jackson Siketi completed the rout after receiving a brilliant assist from Wabwire to make it a 34-0 opening win for the Kenyans.

Kenya 33-0 Ghana

George Ooro would open the scoring for Morans in the first minute after a nice piece of patient build up play, which allowed him to tear through the uprights and net a well converted try, before William Mwanji made it a second well converted try after taking advantage of a lapse in concentration by Ghana.

On song Floyd Wabwire would net the third try before the break after receiving the ball well outside the left flank and paced into the try box, to give them a 21-0 lead heading into the break.

George Ooro would net his second try of the afternoon before Chrisant Ojwang completed the game for Kenya with another try to give them a 33-0 win.
