Match Day Eight of the 2023/2024 Kenya Cup regular season was nothing out of the ordinary, with no real surprises produced.

Like Kabras, KCB maintained their 100 percent record by brushing aside Kisumu, with Menengai Oilers returning to winning ways and Mwamba continuing their resurgence up the table.

Here is a recap of the Kenya Cup action as it happened:

Kisumu 10-64 KCB

Maintaining their impeccable record in the Kenya Cup, KCB secured a dominant 64-10 victory over Kisumu RFC at the Kisumu Polytechnic grounds.

The match showcased KCB's prowess, with Bob Muhati initiating the scoring with the first try, swiftly followed by a successful conversion from Lionel Ajeliti, putting KCB in an early 7-0 lead.

Ajeliti continued his precision by converting Festus Shiasi’s try, extending KCB’s lead. Despite Kisumu pulling one back, the score stood at 14-7 in favor of the Bankers.

Demonstrating their strength, KCB further widened the gap to 21-7 after Ajeliti Lionel successfully converted Felix Ojoo’s try.

Kisumu faced defensive challenges, allowing two successive tries from Austin Sikutwa. Although Sikutwa converted his first try, he missed the next, bringing the scores to 33-7.

Kisumu managed to add points with a penalty kick, but KCB continued their dominance as Bob Muhati scored his second try, with Lionel Ajeliti adding the extras for a commanding 40-10 lead.

Bench players William Opaka and James Ochieng contributed with a try each, and although Ajeliti successfully converted Opaka’s try, he missed Ocheing’s, maintaining KCB's lead at 52-10.

KCB secured additional points with a penalty kick, and Vincent Onyala added a late try, sealing a comprehensive 64-10 victory at fulltime. This win marked KCB's eighth consecutive triumph in the season, propelling them to 39 points.

Menengai Oilers 31-18 Nondies

Menengai Oilers rebounded with a victory, securing a 31-18 win against Nondies to uphold their impressive home match winning streak at the Nakuru Showground fortress.

Tyson Maina initiated Oilers' scoring with the first try, putting his team 5-0 ahead. Abutwalib Wesonga's successful conversion extended the lead to 7-0.

Jadah Abdon contributed to the home team's dominance with his third try of the season, bringing the score to 14-0 after Wesonga's conversion.

Abdon added another try before halftime, widening the lead further, although the conversion attempt went wide.

In the second half, Nondies opened their account with a well-taken penalty kick, reducing the deficit to 19-3.

Harold Anduvate responded swiftly for the hosts with a try, giving them a 24-3 lead. The conversion attempt for Anduvate’s try was unsuccessful.

Despite Nondies adding another penalty to make it 24-6, Anduvate secured his brace with another try, elevating the hosts to a 29-6 lead. Samuel Mwaura's conversion attempt was successful, setting the score at 31-6 in favor of the home team.

Nondies staged a late resurgence, scoring two tries in the final minutes. The Red Lions first scored in the corner, making it 31-11, before securing their second try in the last minute, converting it to cut the deficit further to 31-18.

In the other Kenya Cup matches played, Nakuru RFC piled more misery on struggling Homeboyz Rugby with another defeat in a Kenya Cup clash at Nakuru Athletic Club.

Mwamba secured their third straight win after beating Strathmore Leos at Strathmore University Grounds, while Black Blad needed a penalty in the last minute to snatch the win from the confident Catholic Monks side in a Kenya Cup clash at Kenyatta University Grounds.
