Kenya Pipeline thrashed Ugandan side Kampala Capital City Authority 3-0 in their opening match.

The Kenya Pipeline Company women’s volleyball team was off to a good start at the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) Zone V Club Championships happening at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.

In their opening match against Uganda’s Kampala Capital City Authority, the Oilers oozed class as they thrashed the neighbours 3-0.

The first set saw Kenya Pipeline stun Uganda 25-19 and they did not rest on their laurels as they extended the hot streak to the second set where they reigned supreme, winning 25-15.

In the third set, Uganda came back with the hope of making a mark and hopefully winning a set but the Oilers proved too smart for them. Kenya Pipeline carried the day, winning 25-21.

Meanwhile, head coach Paul Gitau had expressed confidence that the team would emerge champions, and from their style of play, the Oilers proved that they meant business.

“We want to strive hard and win because we are currently ranked second in Africa. We took silver in Tunisia earlier this year and we don’t want to lose this…we shall work hard for a win,” he said during a previous interview.

The team is psyched up to bounce back to their winning ways after finishing second behind Kenya Commercial Bank during the Kenya Volleyball Federation national league playoffs.

However, they have enjoyed a glamorous season too, where they finished second at the African Volleyball Clubs Championship behind Egypt’s Zamalek SC. The Oilers are also Kenya’s sole representatives in the continental showpiece.
