NPCA Women’s T10 Brings New Rhythm to Nairobi’s Cricket Beat

The NPCA Women’s T10 League debuts in Nairobi, showcasing top female cricket talent and promoting empowerment through competitive hard ball matches.

Women’s cricket leagues are imperative as they provide a platform to showcase female talent and inspire generations of young cricketers.

Kenya’s cricket scene is set for a groundbreaking weekend as the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) rolls out the red carpet for its first-ever Women’s T10 Hard Ball League.

The action-packed debut event, scheduled for Saturday, June 14, will feature four electrifying matches across two major venues: Eastleigh High and Ruaraka Sports Club.

This initiative marks a critical step toward gender equality in sport and reflects the growing appetite for structured women’s cricket in Kenya.

Fans can expect explosive encounters as some of the country's top female players take center stage in a fast-paced 10-over format that promises thrills, drama, and plenty of standout moments.

“This is a historic milestone for our sporting community as we proudly launch the inaugural edition of NPCA Women’s T10 league dedicated to promote women’s cricket in Kenya. It has been the dream of NPCA to establish a competitive league for women,” stated NPCA Chairman, Kanti Rabadia.

Empowering Women Through Cricket

The league not only marks a pivotal moment in Kenyan cricket history but also reflects NPCA’s commitment to empowering female athletes and promoting inclusive sport development.

Rabadia underscored the broader vision behind the league, saying, “This league signifies our commitment to fostering gender equality, empowering female athletes, and elevating the profile of women’s cricket at both national and international level.”

League coordinator Lydia Kaparo has been at the center of the preparations and said there’s a contagious buzz of excitement building within the teams' training camps.

Kaparo, alongside Bhavisha Shah, is one of the two NPCA women’s representatives co-opted to ensure the seamless execution of the competition.

“We are excited to start the inaugural NPCA women’s Cricket T10 League which will definitely provide a marvelous platform for showcasing the skills of female cricketers across the ecosystem of the sport. It gives women a chance to compete at a high level and be recognized for their abilities,” said Kaparo.

Career Growth and Real Competition

Kaparo emphasized that the use of a hard ball for the league opens doors for players looking to pursue professional careers, while also raising the competitiveness of the tournament.

“The league is hard ball and offers a path for female cricketers to make a career out of the sport, providing an enabling environment and recognition,” she noted. “Hard ball enables realistic game conditions and various batting opportunities, so thrills and spills are guaranteed,” quipped Kaparo.

She urged players and fans alike to gear up for fast-paced action and competitive spirit. “As the first ever women’s T10 league comes to Nairobi, the best will battle for glory in 10 overs of pure adrenaline,” she added.

Star-studded Line-up and Fixtures

The fixtures promise gripping entertainment. At Eastleigh High School, Chui Champs will face Twiga Warriors at 2 pm, followed by Farasi Force taking on Simba Titans at 4 pm Simultaneously, Ruaraka Sports Club will host Duma Strikers in a double-header, first against Kifaru Chargers at 2pm and later versus Ndovu Power at 4 pm.

Teams feature a blend of experience and youth. Chui Champs, led by Mary Wambui, are expected to bring flair and tactical grit. Ndovu Power, captained by Quinter Abel, boasts talents like Angeline Mengo, Diya Manji, Emma McDonald, and Medha Ashwin.

Simba Titans, under the command of Kenya U-19 captain Janet Nthenya, bring youthful exuberance with players like Nazarene Davine and wicketkeeper Shirleen Midewa ready to make a mark.
