Wafalme have clinched a vital win against Ghana at CAVB African Volleyball Nations Championship in Cairo.

Kenya national men's volleyball team  Wafalme have emerged victorious against Ghana with a thrilling 3-2 victory at the ongoing CAVB African Volleyball Nations Championship in Cairo. 

The match, held at the  Cairo International Stadium, showcased Wafalme's resilience and showcased standout performances from Enock Mugeni and Abiud Chirchir.

In the opening set, Kenya narrowly lost 23-25, setting the stage for an intense battle. However, Wafalme bounced back in set two, dominating with a resounding 25-2 victory, displaying their unwavering spirit. 

Set three saw Kenya face another setback as they succumbed to a 16-25 defeat, but they quickly regrouped, claiming set four with an impressive score of 25-17.

The tiebreaker proved to be the ultimate showdown, with Wafalme emerging triumphant, winning 15-11, and sealing their victory over Ghana.

Wafalme started the tournament with a tough 3-1 loss to Cameroon, followed by another defeat in their second match against Libya, where they went down 3-0 sets.

In a post-match interview, Wafalme's coach, Gideon Tarus, expressed his excitement over the team's win against Ghana.

 "I am happy to have won the first match. In the next round, we are going to meet a manageable opponent. I am happy for my boys' winning spirit,” he said.

Kenya's next challenge in the Round of 16 will be against Algeria, the top finisher in Group A.

Meanwhile, in another exciting match that captivated fans, Libya delivered a stunning upset by defeating the continental powerhouse Cameroon with a score of 3-1 (25-27, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25). 

Kenya's current global FIVB ranking stands at 69th, while they are ranked fifth in Africa. 

Drawing inspiration from their remarkable performance in the 2021 tournament in Rwanda, where they secured a memorable victory over powerhouse Egypt, Kenya's Wafalme is determined to deliver an outstanding performance in Cairo.
