Harambee Stars' Mohammed Bajaber on How He is Coping With 'Starboy' Pressure Ahead of CHAN 2024
Mohammed Bajaber has become somewhat of a celebrity in recent months, signing autographs and taking selfies with fans numerous times since his sensational Harambee Stars debut against Gambia last March.
“I’m a coach and I’ve got so many players to worry about, you know. If a player and club decide that it’s in the player’s best interest to join an international club and skip the CHAN tournament, there's nothing as a coach I can do, you know,” Benni McCarthy said in an interview shared by Tata Sports.
“But yeah, I don't need to try and convince anybody, like they know that representing your country is such a huge honour. So, I don't think anything else should come before that.
“But you know the player and their agents and their representatives, they have their own ways of dealing with that. Like I said, they were part of the squad, and unfortunately, they got moves to foreign clubs.”
Benni McCarthy: They Are More Than Welcome

However, Benni McCarthy added that if they decided to come back to Harambee Stars, he would not chase them away.
He noted that they might just be after securing their futures, noting that the club, players and management had their own goals to achieve and he would not want to interfere with that.
Benni McCarthy added that when CHAN starts and they play in the tournament, Emmanuel Osoro and Moses Shummah will probably see whether the decisions they made were right or not, but that was up to them and not his concern. He added that Harambee Stars would move on with the players they had in camp.

“So yeah, all I can say is I wish them all the very best and good luck in their new challenge, wherever they're going. But we will continue to soldier on and do the best preparation that we can.”
