Emmanuel Osoro and David Sakwa, who scored for Harambee Stars in their win over Chad, have been left delighted with what coach Benni McCarthy is building.

Harambee Stars heroes Emmanuel Osoro and David Sakwa are reveling in their performances for the national team after scoring in Kenya’s 2-1 win over Chad on Tuesday.

Osoro was on target after 18 minutes before Sakwa scored the second on the stroke of halftime after showing great movement in and around the box during the friendly match, handing coach Benni McCarthy his first win as Kenya coach.

FC Talanta striker Osoro, who was playing his first game for the national team, was left delighted with his dream debut, explaining how McCarthy has made it easier for everyone in camp.

“Happy with my first call-up and I have scored. I pushed myself to score a goal and provide an assist as it is what I always wished for and delighted to have had a perfect start,” said Osoro, who assisted Sakwa’s goal.

“The first game [against Chad] we played well but were not lucky to score and we are thankful to score two goals because we wasted lots of chances in the other game but we went to train and we wanted to score, get a clean sheet, but we are thankful to win

“Coach is communicating well and treats us like his boys which makes it easy in training and it makes you want to push harder to make him happy and, in the end, you gain a lot,” the FKF Premier League top scorer further said.

Meanwhile, his Bandari counterpart Sakwa was also over the moon after converting Kenya’s second goal against and a first one for him in Harambee Stars colours and now wants the country to back the team and coach as he believes they are onto something good.

“The squad is ready, we just want fans and Kenyans to believe in us and then we as players also have belief because like today’s game, it was very competitive. The way we played, you could not imagine they are local players, passing and chance creation was very high,” said Sakwa.

Kenya had played out a goalless draw with Chad on Saturday, when they wasted a lot of chances, but improved in the rematch on Tuesday although they put their foot off the pedal in the second half to allow their opponents an opportunity to pull one back.
