Benni McCarthy has reacted to Moses Shumah's move to Power Dynamos, which rules the striker out of the Harambee Stars' CHAN squad.

Benni McCarthy has finally broken his silence on former Kakamega Homeboyz striker Moses Shumah joining Zambian giants Power Dynamos.

Moses Shumah was unveiled by the Zambian club on July 4, a few days after Benni McCarthy had named his provisional squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for August 2-30.

With Moses Shumah having signed with Power Dynamos, he will be forced to withdraw from Harambee Stars’ CHAN squad, with Benni McCarthy being forced to get an alternative.

Despite being forced to scratch his head on finding a suitable replacement for Moses Shumah, Benni McCarthy has lauded the 22-year-old for achieving such a remarkable milestone.

Benni McCarthy pointed out that with Moses Shumah joining a top club, it is a blessing for Harambee Stars and he has a guarantee of being called to the national team ahead of the World Cup qualifiers and African Cup of Nations in 2027.

The former Manchester United attacking coach admitted that he has yet to speak with him but revealed that he spotted his talent during the Harambee Stars friendlies against Chad in Morocco.

Benni McCarthy added that he has earned the honours, thanks to his exploits for Kakamega Homeboyz too.

“It’s a great opportunity for a player to move to a better league and go where he can go and develop his talent and then he comes back to the national team when we do the qualifications for the World Cup and prepare for AFCON 2027,” Benni McCarthy said during a press conference on Wednesday morning.

“It’s fantastic when players excel and get an opportunity to play in the bigger leagues. It only brings more success to the Kenyan national team and opens up another chance for the young players to get an opportunity.”

Moses Shumah has been in great form, sealing his Football Kenya Federation Premier League 2024/25 season as the top scorer with 17 goals.

The Harambee Stars striker is now ready to leave a mark in the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.
