Learn about Denmak FC, a team from Kwale County challenging Gor Mahia in the FKF Cup.

Little known Denmak FC from Kwale County is gearing up for what could be the most significant match in their history as they prepare to take on the 11-time FKF Cup champions Gor Mahia.

This thrilling encounter is set to take place at the Ukunda Show Ground during the FKF Cup round of 32 this Sunday marking a pivotal moment for both teams.

Denmak FC, a team that hails from the coastal region of Kwale, has seen a meteoric rise in local football particularly in the past three years.

With football's popularity waning in the area due to the challenges posed by drugs and substance abuse, as well as insecurity, the introduction of the Rashid Abdallah Super Cup League in 2020 marked a turning point.

Under the guidance of head coach Mwinyi Kuuza, with assistance from Juma Kalato, Denmak FC has clinched the league title twice, demonstrating their growing dominance on the local scene.

The team boasts over 50 players, ranging in age from as young as nine to veterans at forty highlighting the inclusive and developmental nature of their football program.

The team's captain, Khalifa Shaban, expressed the significance of the upcoming match against Gor Mahia.

"It is the match of our lives, and as much as we respect our opponents, we want to write history. We want to go as far as we can in the competition," Shaban told Pulse Sports.

Assistant coach Juma Kalato revealed that Denmak FC will rely on their newly signed experienced players to challenge Gor Mahia effectively.

"We have prepared so well for Gor, we do respect them as a big club in East Africa but we will give them a run for their money on Sunday. We go into the match as the underdogs but we know that is somehow to our advantage – no pressure at all," Kalato told Citizen TV.

Denmak FC's journey to the FKF Cup round of 32 was highlighted by their victory over Lazium in December 2022, where they won the third edition of the Rashid Abdallah Super Cup.

This victory not only secured them a substantial prize from the tournament's sponsor, Mozzart Bet, but also solidified their status as a formidable force in Kwale football.
