The former Shabana winger was in Sweden for trials last September, and even earned a call up to the Harambee Stars squad in December 2024.

Nairobi United’s rising star Isaac Omweri believes he has left a lasting legacy at the club following their historic FKF Cup victory over Gor Mahia last Sunday.

The 21-year-old winger has been instrumental in Nairobi United’s fairytale season — playing a key role in their National Super League (NSL) title win and securing promotion to the FKF Premier League. His performances have not only propelled the Naiboys into the top flight but also caught the attention of international scouts, including interest from Sweden.

Speaking exclusively to Pulse Sports at the Ulinzi Sports Complex after their hard-fought 2-1 win over record champions Gor Mahia, Omweri opened up about the significance of the trophy, his personal journey, and his ambitions for the future.

“I want to thank God for giving us this win — it means a lot to me because without Him, we wouldn’t be here,” said Omweri. “We’ve been praising God for this career he has given us.”

He also expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaching staff, and supporters:

“I want to thank my teammates and the families who have supported us on this journey. The camaraderie within the club is exceptional — it’s what drives us to win. That love is everything for us.”

Omweri's rise hasn't gone unnoticed. In September 2024, he flew to Sweden for trials with Vasalunds IF, following his standout form in the NSL. While a permanent move didn’t materialize at the time, he continues to attract interest.

Domestically, he earned a provisional call-up to the Harambee Stars squad for the Mapinduzi Cup in December but narrowly missed the final selection. He was also eyeing a place in the CHAN squad, but again fell short. Still, his focus remains on breaking into the national setup.

“If the chance comes again, I’ll be grateful to God,” Omweri shared. “It would be my second time, and if the coach trusts me, I’ll give 100% to help our nation win.”

Omweri hinted that his time at Nairobi United could be coming to an end, but he is determined to leave on a high.

“Maybe this could be my last season with the team. I had to give my all, given the CV I’ve built,” he said. “I want to leave a legacy — something for others to look up to. To inspire those who come after me to lift this team even higher.”

He urged fans to continue supporting the team:

“Thank you for the support you’ve shown this season. Keep coming in numbers next year. We won’t just be participating — we’ll be competing to win, whether I’m around or not.”

Omweri’s journey is the stuff of dreams. A student at the Technical University of Kenya, he joined Nairobi United two years ago when they were still in Division One, Zone A. Before that, he had a brief stint with Shabana FC while still a high school student at Kibabii School.

Now, after helping Nairobi United ascend from the third tier to the Premier League and lifting silverware along the way, Isaac Omweri’s name is already etched in the club’s short but memorable history.

Whether he stays or moves abroad, one thing is clear — his legacy at Nairobi United is secure.
