FKF CUP Kenya Police set for Posta Rangers duel as Sofapaka face minnows Silibwet

Festus Chuma 08:33 - 24.02.2024

Five matches are set for Saturday in the FKF Cup, including Kenya Police vs. Posta Rangers and Sofapaka vs. Silibwet.

The FKF Cup heats up this Saturday as Kenya Police FC and Posta Rangers FC prepare to lock horns in a Round of 32 clash at the Police Sacco Grounds.

Having navigated through the preliminary rounds with convincing victories Kenya Police and Posta Rangers now find themselves on a collision course in their quest for domestic cup glory.

Police FC dispatched Vegpro with finesse while Posta Rangers overcame Wisdom Soccer Academy setting the stage for a showdown between two of the FKF Premier League's form teams.

Posta Rangers currently sit second in the league standings with 39 points, closely trailed by Kenya Police FC in fourth place with 37 points, making this match a battle of the titans.

The stakes are high as neither team has ever lifted the FKF Cup, marking this encounter as a golden opportunity to etch their names in the annals of Kenyan football history.

Despite facing off seven times in league play, this match marks their first meeting in the domestic cup, adding an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the proceedings.

"Our team is so talented that we have the luxury of playing our reserve squad and still achieve favorable outcomes in our games," remarked Kenya Police coach Salim Babu, highlighting the depth and quality within his squad.

Their most recent league encounter ended in a goalless draw, a testament to the evenly matched nature of these two teams.

Over their past meetings, Police have emerged victorious three times, Posta Rangers once, with two matches ending in draws.

Both teams have come close to cup glory in the past, with Posta Rangers reaching the final in 2014 only to fall short against Sofapaka.

With the league title increasingly looking like it will go to Gor Mahia, the FKF Cup represents a crucial opportunity for both teams to claim silverware this season.

The rivalry between these two teams was reignited earlier this season in league play, with Posta Rangers delivering a stunning 3-0 defeat to Kenya Police at the Police Sacco Grounds.

Before the spotlight falls on Kenya Police and Posta Rangers, FC Talanta will face off against Bungoma Stars in an earlier match at the same venue.

Talanta aims to sidestep an upset against the Division Two side, which previously knocked out 2015 winners Bandari FC in a surprise victory.

Other matches to watch on Saturday include Silibwet Leons taking on Sofapaka in Bomet, Compel FC hosting Kajiado FC in Bungoma, and Bomachoge Borabu versus SS Assad in Kisii.

The FKF Cup not only offers prestige and the chance to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup but also features enticing prize money, with the winner taking home Sh2 million.
