The much-anticipated CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship faces another scheduling shift as preparations continue.
The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has postponed the inaugural CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship 2025 for the second time.
The event was initially scheduled for June 6 to 11 before being pushed to July 7 to 12, with the venue remaining in Mombasa, Kenya.
Following the postponement of the event for the first time, the organisers pointed out that they will be keen to deliver a memorable event and hinted at not being well-prepared for the event.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this postponement may cause to your preparations and plans,” CECAFA’s Executive Director, Auka Gecheo, said.
“Our intention remains to deliver a high-quality competition, and this adjustment will allow us to meet all necessary requirements for a smooth and memorable event.”
Why CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship Has Been Postponed Again
The organising committee shared a press statement, noting that the event has since been pushed to July 16 to 20. The statement further noted that the Championship has been postponed twice due to logistical challenges.
“We shall now have the Championship run July 16–20th, 2025, in Mombasa, Kenya,” confirmed Auka Gecheo in the statement.
The teams that have already confirmed participation include Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Burundi and guest sides Malawi and Seychelles.
Previously, CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi said: “We have also sent out invites to other Member Associations outside our zone, and we expect positive responses. We expect more in the next few days.”
According to CECAFA, the inaugural Beach Soccer Championship is expected to set the stage for more beach soccer events within the region. In addition to the beach soccer tournament, CECAFA has a packed calendar.
